This traditional baby receiving blanket is the best of both worlds.  It is created from a cotton and Merino lambswool blend, making it super-soft and practical. This beautiful 2-ply receiving shawl is made in Nottingham using age-old lace designs.

This pattern is very unusual with a jacquard pattern in the central panel and deep lacy scalloped edging. It is a larger than average receiving blanket in an off-white colour. 

Each of these shawls is lovingly knitted at a traditional lace-knitting factory in Nottingham, England by highly skilled and experienced artisans where they have been innovating and designing lacy knitted patterns into classic and timeless shawls for over a century.

The shawl is warm and lightweight - it is wonderfully delicate and if cared for, it will be cherished for years, maybe for generations, to come. A superb quality baby shawl that would make an especially memorable yet practical gift.

Nottingham is the City of Lace where manufacturers have been making these special shawls for the babies of celebrities and royalty alike for many years. 

Traditional lace-knit baby shawls made in Nottingham have been chosen by royal families in the UK and Europe, and recently for the creation of a receiving blanket for TRH Princes William and more recently for HRH Prince George and HRH Princess Charlotte.

Use & Care

As part of the hand-finishing, this shawl has been washed using gentle products suitable for sensitive skin so it is ready for immediate use.

Hand wash using a wool-approved detergent like , or use pure soap flakes. Allow to dry naturally away from direct heat.

Due to the nature of our traditionally hand-finished baby shawls, knitted using finest natural yarns, please hand-wash in water not over 30°C. 

Dry flat, away from direct sunlight and heat and never tumble-dry. 

Note that the scalloped edges will naturally relax after washing. This is normal and doesn't deter from the quality of the product. 

For a perfect finish - for those with some meditative time on their hands - gently pin out the scalloped edges, cover the shawl with an ironing cloth and press with a cool iron.

Don't use regular laundry detergents. Although rarely mentioned on the label, even 'delicates' detergents usually contain bleach, which damages wool.  Look for detergents that are specifically advertised as safe for wool, not just delicates.
